Motion Image Separation Technology (MIST) is a new and
sophisticated object detection and tracking system capable of providing an
early warning of intrusion from objects (including people) entering or moving
through restricted areas or routes. MIST identifies potential
threats and, using the NetWatch infrastructure, alerts users and enables
informed responses. |

The system detects and
tracks objects that conform to sets of rules. When these ‘objects’ interact
with 'Virtual sensors' placed in the video image by the system administrator,
the system raises an alert for the operator and gives a clear and precise
visual presentation for the cause of the alert. Virtual Sensors’
include: Virtual Trip Wires, Virtual Cages and Virtual Warning Zones all of
which can be drawn into the scene using interactive tools. Tracked objects leave
paths from where they were first detected to their current position. Used in conjunction with
the NetWatch CCTV product range, MIST can activate hi resolution normal
vision PTZ cameras to home in on and record the virtual sensor activation.
MIST servers record pre and post alarm video. MIST can operate with multiple targets, showing tracks of past positions and predicted future routes based on general heading. Path prediction maintains object tracking even when an object is temporarily obscured. |

This picture shows a soldier in combat dress, moving under cover down
a wooded hillside. The MIST system highlights his position, the route he has
taken, the 'Virtual Tripwire' he is about to cross and the point at which he
will cross the tripwire if he maintains his present course.

Video surveillance
system operators have a hard time when assessing the vast array of data
presented by video screens. So much information requires constant vigilance
to detect transgressions, yet the very act of concentrating on video screens
can produce lethargy and boredom in a relatively short time. The objective of Moving
Image Separation Technology is to provide a means of giving reliable alert
information to security operatives when a pre-defined set of video events are
detected. The events are initially monitored over normal security cameras or
thermal image cameras. Video images from these cameras are then processed by
the ‘Moving Image Separation Technology’, and, when pre-defined moving image
rules met, raise an alert condition to bring the operators attention to the
images in question. The system provides a
dual benefit to users. By monitoring chosen locations 100% of the time, it
reduces the chance that operators may miss a security breach as they usually
have more than one image to monitor, and attention has to be shared. Therefore,
the system is more reliable. Secondly, by reducing the fatigue caused by
concentration on what is usually a monotonous task, operators can take on
a wider scope of surveillance. Motion Image Separation
Technology, developed by AR&T, detects intruders under all weather
conditions on land, sea and air. Using thermal imaging cameras,
and new image-processing techniques, the system alerts operators when warm
objects, of pre-defined sizes, enter or approach protected areas. |

A single MIST detector can
provide reliable 24-hour detection of targets at ranges up to 30kM. Filters
can be employed to improve clutter rejection, these include; target
temperature, target size and target speed. Detection rules include the
Virtual Trip Wires, Virtual Cages and Virtual Warning Zones, all of which can
be drawn into the scene using interactive tools. Scripted rules define
actions and the control of external devices when detection rules are met. |

Used in conjunction with
the NetWatch CCTV product range, MIST can activate normal vision (fixed or
PTZ) cameras to home in on and record the VTW activation. The MIST unit will
record pre and post alarm video. MIST can handle multiple targets, showing tracks of past positions and predicted future routes based on general heading. Path prediction maintains object tracking when an object is momentarily obscured. |

Using distributed
intelligent ‘outstations’; a MIST system can protect compounds, airfield
perimeters, and country borders. Image data from MIST
sites is transmitted over IP networks to NetWatch Monitor stations using the
established AR&T NetWatch video surveillance system. The system will
support any number of MIST and Monitor sites equipped with a connection to
the network, located anywhere in the world. The system is able to detect events in video signals that may otherwise go un-noticed, are not discernable to the human eye and are not appropriate for long-term human concentration. |

Applications include:
asset protection, search and rescue, process control etc. In conjunction with
NetWatch, MIST can be built into large corporate or military networks. Such
systems can then detect remote events and distribute the resulting video data
to all locations on the network. All the surveillance
system management tools available with other NetWatch products are equally
applicable to MIST. MIST servers may be retrofitted to existing video systems
to improve performance and reduce operator stress. The visual displays are
easy to understand and simple to operate AR&T support clients
through the planning stages and can configure MIST systems on client’s
premises if required. |
